Apollo

Apollo - Parnassius apollo

Apollo is one of the largest butterflies in Poland. In our country for more than two centuries the range and abundance of apollo has fallen severely. This butterfly was extinct in the Sudeten already in the nineteenth century. Currently the species is present in the Pieniny and Raven Mountains, where he was reintroduced in the nineties of the twentieth century. It still remains an extremely endangered species. The Karkonosze National Park started the apollo reintroduction program in 2007. The first step was placing its eggs in a suitable habitat. In the following year, adult individuals were released. The reintroduction program will be continued and will probably last for many years on.
